A triple stabbing Sunday in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan left one person dead and two injured, police said, and a man was in custody.
Around 5:45 p.m., New York Police Department officers responded to multiple calls reporting a stabbing near Avenue A and East 14th Street in Lower Manhattan.
When they arrived, officers found three people with stab wounds: A man, 38, had been stabbed in the neck, a 51-year-old woman had been wounded in her leg, and another man, 32, had been stabbed in the back, according to the NYPD.
Authorities rushed each of the victims by ambulance to nearby hospitals, where the older man was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD. Police would not release his name, saying his family had yet to be properly notified.
As of Monday morning, the woman remained in critical condition and the man was listed in stable condition.
At the scene, officers recovered "a cutting instrument" and brought a 30-year-old man into custody.
It was unclear whether the man has been charged in the stabbing or whether he knew any of the victims. Police had not released any further details, including the man's name.
"The investigation remains ongoing," the NYPD said in an email.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
